Today started with a slow morning at the house, then a drive downtown back to Navy Pier. We took in a performance of The Little Mermaid. I was disappointed in their technical delivery over my previous trip to see the Shakespeare Company. The kids enjoyed it. Next was shopping on Michigan Ave. I didn’t get many photos today. I elft Scott and Karen downtown to stay at a hotel.

Did quite a little dance today when my Expedition reached this big milestone. Hopefully, it will last a few more years… at least until the kids stop dropping crumbs in the seat! (wishful thinking?)

I had an opportunity to take Garrett to a waterpark with some friends today. We both ended up getting quite the sunburns, even while putting on sunscreen regularly. Garrett is a fish! He loved the wave pool and the tall water slide that you use an innertube to come down on.

What a beautiful city this is at night! Last night I took a group of teenagers visiting from Arlington, TX for a sightseeing trip downtown at night. I got this picture of the skyline I love to look at—night or day. I love this town!

Besides the excitement of the ER that Sarah gets to experience every day, today she had an opportunity to ride along with UCAN for a few hours.
She left her pager and phone at home, so when she called us from the hospital near our house and was going to be there for a bit, we ran over to deliver her devices and see the chopper. The boys were very excited and proud of their momma.

It’s a little late, but I broke down and hired someone to clean the house today. It hadn’t had a good cleaning since we moved in, and when we did find time to “clean”, it was more like picking up and reorganizing the junk that hadn’t been unpacked yet.
This gave us the opportunity and the motivation to get most of that stuff put away and then let someone else do the scrubbing! It looks great and was well worth the cost. Thanks Tiffany!
While this was going on, Wally the tree guy came with his crew and took out a tree that was ready to fall on the swingset. whew! He also trimmed quite a few more and was very clean and quick.
So, some money spent, but a good cleaning, in and out today.

This is a small update so that my brother will stop thinking of me as “pathetic” since I’m not updating as often as he would like.
Didn’t get to work on the sites this weekend as 1) we entertained a couple of times on Sunday and 2) I have a large project in the final stages (meltdown time) that we are pressing hard to finish.
This weekend is out too since I’ll be taking the boys to meet grandparents in Missouri and then leaving one with them to take back to Oklahoma with them. Also have two sets of old friends arriving to spend time with us this weekend. Should be lots of fun though.
As stuff happens, I’ll get it on here. :P

Why is it that product developers can’t get it together and make things work before they release product??
Just when I thought all hope of getting 75% of my “want-list” for a new cell phone was lost, Cingular brought out a new phone with a plan and a phone that met almost all of my needs.
Now I can sync my addressbook and calendar via Bluetooth plus get a bluetooth headset!! So I got all the pieces I needed: a Wireless USB Bluetooth Adapter and a Plantronics M1500
WRONG! None of them will work together. Siemens continues to deny compatibility with Apple products even though Apple has approved the phone for iSync. Each vendor has (for 2 months now) pointed the finger at the other vendor. Apple has been the only one who even tries to make an effort to get things working. And I can’t leave out mention of Shawn at my local Cingular store. She has done, I believe, everything she can to help in this matter when we both know this is not Cingular’s issue.
What I have hard time with is companies half-heartedly embracing standards and specifications that are agreed upon by those companies and others in the industry. They got together and wrote the specs for Bluetooth! Why are we having problems with devices “just working” like they should?
Siemens has been especially rude even though I spent a good chunk of money on their phone. Today when I called to find out the newest software version of my phone, “Chet” asked what phone we were going to be talking about. His response to the S56 was, “Ah, you have the new toy.” What is that supposed to mean? Am I beta-testing this phone for them? Am I just a sucker? Is this just an expensive toy phone instead of one that really works?? About this time in the conversation (like others I’ve had with Siemens customer service), Chet turned cold as ice and started demanding that he couldn’t help me since I use an Apple. I had to ask him 3 times to find out what the latest software version for this phone was. Obviously my record in their files has a big red flag on it and therefore I should be treated like complete trash—an outsider. I am so sick of hearing, “well, it’s not our problem. You should contact XYZ.”
I am also sick of having to explain what bluetooth is to these help desk people who work for these companies that sell these products! ARG. Learn your product features and how to use them or get out of the business!
I don’t know much else I can do but enjoy my very expensive telephone. If Apple doesn’t come through for me this week in figuring out the issue, that’s about all I can do. :-( I’ve spent many hours on the phone the last few weeks and I really need something to be figured out soon. In a year, I can cancel my Cingular service and get a Sony-Ericson T68i from AT&T or T-Mobile who hopefully will have better coverage than what they have now.

Garrett experienced his first dental visit today. He did extremely well. I’ll post some pictures as soon as we get them developed. I was really pleased with him. :)
